Have you been using the same products all year long? It’s definitely time to switch up and maybe even try a new routine. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and use the same products you already know and are most comfortable with. Once you figure out the perfect combination of cleanser, serum and moisturizer, what is the point of upgrading something that doesn’t need to be fixed?

Well, your skin can change throughout time. It can even change with the environment. Here are some upgrades and changes you can make to your skincare routine. Who knows? Maybe these upgrades will show how your skin will shine in the new year.

First step: research.

Look at that! You’ve already started the first step. Welcome to your journey to an enhanced skin care routine. Reading articles, watching videos and asking questions will help when figuring out what changes you want to make. Begin by asking yourself how you want your skin to look and what problems your skin is currently dealing with. Maybe you want your skin to really glow. If that’s the case, try a new moisturizer. Experiencing breakouts? Perhaps a new face wash will solve this problem. You can even ask for help from those in your life who experience similar problems or have the look you want.

Second Step: try out new products.

This step is all about trial and error. It’s the experiment phase. Not all products will work for your skin. You’ll find some that can make it worse and some that will improve it drastically. Don’t get scared when one of the new products you try seems to have negative effects on your skin. That’s normal and part of the process.

Here’s an example of a product that’s often forgotten in people’s skin care routines that you could try incorporating into your new routine: Eye Cream

Has anyone ever said to you, “you look tired?” It’s probably because you haven’t been using eye cream. The skin around your eyes is thin and delicate. Eye cream won’t just prevent wrinkles and early signs of aging, it will also help correct those wretched dark circles under the eyes and reduce puffiness. Tip: apply using your fourth finger. It is the weakest and will be the most gentle against your skin. If you haven’t already started moisturizing around your eyes, it’s time to start now.

Eye cream is not the only product you can add to your routine. Do more research and you’ll find out what products will best suit the needs of your skin.

Third step: try out new techniques.

New products are not the only things that can be upgraded in your routine. Have you been washing with your hands? Using your fingers to spread the moisturizer or serum on your face? While your hands are good tools, they can actually contribute to some of your skin’s problems. The hands contain natural oils that can clog your pores, thus washing your face just became pointless.

Try using a facial brush. Some are silicone, some have bristles, and some even come with changing heads so you can have the best of all worlds. Skin rollers can be used to apply moisturizers and serums. They gently massage the skin to reduce the signs of aging, treat acne scars and rejuvenate the skin. Much better than fingers! Again, through research you’ll be able to find the best tools and techniques for your skin type.

With the new year just begun, everyone is taking this as their chance at a fresh start. After the stress of 2020, we all hope that this year will be better and since stress is one of the main causes for skin breakouts, our skin certainly hopes so too.
